Socratic Seminar FAQ
What kind of students are you looking for?
You should be a current post-secondary student (undergraduate or graduate) or have graduated within the last two years. We look for participants with a diversity of backgrounds, academic qualifications, and political ideologies. You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the seminar.
I want to participate! How do I get the chance to attend?
Some of our Socratic Seminars are invite-only. Others are opened to applications.
Invite-Only Seminars
We send invites to students known to the ILS—typically those who have previously attended another ILS event (e.g., Freedom Week), or participated in another ILS program (e.g., Summer Fellowship).
If you want the chance to attend an invite-only Socratic Seminar, please start engaging with the ILS!
Application Seminars
Occasionally, we open a Socratic Seminar to applications. These opportunities will appear on this page. Check back here or subscribe to our email list to stay up to date.
Does the ILS cover travel, accomodations, and meals?
The ILS will always cover accommodations and meals for Socratic Seminar attendees.
And, in almost all cases, travel costs are also covered by the ILS.
I want to apply to attend a Socratic Seminar, but I’m not sure of my schedule yet. What should I do?
We encourage you to still apply. If you are accepted, but will no longer be able to attend due to schedule changes or other unexpected events. That’s fine—but, we do ask that you notify us immediately if anything happens that will prevent you from attending.
